Has one quote ever changed your life? Like the second you heard it, you felt this instant burst of motivation? Did you use it all in- to chase your dreams?
For David Asarnow, the founder and CEO of Business Nitrogen, it was, “Perfect is the enemy of done.” It became the quote that catapulted him towards achieving his dream of owning his own business.
So you might be wondering, what exactly does it mean? And more importantly, how does it apply to me?
For David Asarnow, he heard this quote for the first time just as he was about to launch his business website. According to David, he wanted his website to be perfect! Like it couldn’t launch until it was dialed in to perfection.
A coworker told David, “Perfect is the enemy of done.” Meaning that David could launch his website and simultaneously continue to make it “perfect”!
In life, if you’re always waiting for the “perfect time” to do something, or the “perfect opportunity” to begin, you’ll never get started!
For David, this quote was his catalyst. Maybe for you it’s a different one. Our team at Business Nitrogen wants to know what quote changed your life? That motivated you to go all in, that changed everything. And of course, WHY?

What do you think is one of the hardest things for business owners to learn? What is one thing that almost all business owners have in common? The desire to control their business. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s admirable, even courageous, for business owners to think in this way. But, the reality is, though we desire control, it doesn't mean we have that power.
As business owners, we can only control what we can control. The rest is out of our hands. Though it’s one of the hardest things for us to admit, it’s also one of the most important — because it is reality.
The truth is, it’s a waste of precious resources, your time and energy, to focus on the elements of your company you can’t control. So what can you do to make sure you don’t make this mistake?
It’s simple: focus on what you can control in your business.
Good news! Here are a few things you can focus on, as a business owner, that you can control on the day to day.
Focus on the vision your business is creating.
Zone in on the positivity of that day, or praising team members for a job well done.
Or focus on what each member of your team can bring to your mission!
What are some of the greatest lessons you’ve learned as a business owner and operator? What are some ways that you do focus on what you can control? And how can this mindset contribute to your business success now and in the future?
